Reports from Earthquake Striken Zone of Sichuan Province - Part One
Regenerative Medical Technique Plays a Magnificent Role in Earthquake Relief Efforts in Lushan County
Lushan County of Yaan City, Sishuan Province was struck by a powerful earthquake of 7.0 on Richter Scale on 8: 02 of April 20th. The depth of earthquake center is about 13km. And, the earthquake center is about 35km away from Yaan and about 110km from Chengdu city. According to Department of Civil Affairs of Sichuan Province at 11: 30 of April 21st, the earthquake leads to death or disappearance of 203 people, and leaving 11492 injured.
The whole nation worries about the great earthquake in Sichuan Province. Prof. Xu Rongxiang, Standing Member of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Honorable Chairman of the Chinese Burn Association of the Integration of Traditional and Western Medicine and Chairman of the Board of MEBO International, expressed his regards towards medical staff working on the earthquake-bedridden region. Apart from offering guidance of regenerative and medical treatment, he will also offer support on such areas as medicine, dressings and capital to treat trauma wounds.
During the great earthquake in Wenchuan, Prof. Xu Rongxiang had, for three times, led medical teams to the earthquake sites and rescued large amount of survivals. He summarized the experiences and lessons gained on the site and achieved the results that no amputation is required for severe wounds and crush injury and no disabilities remain among burn patients. All these had been widely reported and praised. At the same time, he had helped established a comparatively comprehensive network of application of regenerative medical technique to treat wounds and burns in Sichuan Province. Many hospitals, including Yaan People’s Hospital, Fire Department Hospital of Sichuan Armed Police, Shifang Burns Hospital and Deyang People’s Hospital and some other hospitals, have played important role in the rescue of Lushan earthquake. Yaan People’s Hospital, which received the most patients, is the core base hospital of National Medical Website for Burns, Wounds and Ulcers. And, Lushan County Hospital is also a grass-root hospital with better applied regenerative medical techniques.

After the earthquake, the Chinese Burn Association of the Integration of Traditional and Western Medicine opened the hotline telephone right away and maintained communication with experts of Sichuan Medical Website even though the telecommunication there was unsatisfactory.
Fire Department Hospital of Sichuan Armed Police realized the accomplishment of no disabilities in their rescue of severe burns in Wenchuan earthquake. In the telephone interview with its President Wei Ping, he said that they were now very busy and they had sent out several batches of medical teams for on-site rescue. Today, he was in the hospital to issue orders. And, Director Fu Zijun, under the circumstances of continuous aftershocks, maintained the normal order of the department and had received large amount of wounded patients. Last night, they were busy treating the wounded. And, very fortunately, no one have died ever since due to prompt treatment. Yaan People’s hospital is the one with the largest scale, best conditions and highese comprehensive level in its locality. The local government categorized the patients sent from the earthquake zone and distributed those who required immediate surgery treatment to the Hospital. Out there, a competition to rescue life is on the scene.
At this moment, many tents have been erected on the open spaces of Yaan People’s Hospital, and the medical staff swarmed to receive the wounded once the ambulances arrived. After simple communication about the diseases conditions, the doctors would categorize the wounded before sending them to emergency rescue ward for treatment. Most of the patients sent here suffer from injuries on head, spines and upper and lower limbs. Batches and batches of patients were sent to the Hospital and were well arranged within the Hospital. With aftershocks continue, Director Fu Zijun with Yaan People’s Hospital led his team and struggled for several dozen’s of hours. They adopted the advanced regenerative medical technique to treat the patients with wounds and burns survived in the earthquake and made them powerful again. Though they were extremely tired, they had no regrets in rescuing and treating patients.
