Intensified Effort Bring Breakthrough on CME in Indonesia --Report of Continued Medical Education in Indonesia

On 15th April, 2012, a team from MEBO International Group International Business hurried to Indonesia for the first round of CME in 2012. The team was composed by Professor WANG Hong-sheng who has rich clinical and teaching experience and Ms. WANG Yi-fei, Director of the General Technical Department. According to the arrangement and plan made by International Business and Indonesia distributor Combiphar, MEBO team launched full swing CME immediately so as to make breakthrough and standardize the application of MEBT/MEBO and also expand indications.
The CME was launched based on the Burn Course Symposium & Workshop held at the end of last year. MEBO team made presentations to fully demonstrate and introduce MEBT/MEBO during the symposium which aroused intense interests among the burn surgeons. Thus laid a foundation for the CME in 2012 and bring a new climax to the promotion of MEBT/MEBO.

Target area of the first round CME included Jakarta and other three government hospitals in the surrounding cities. One of them is a police hospital which admitted many burn and traumatic patients. This round of CME included one MEBO session during the conference of Indonesia Medical Association, training of Combiphar staff. Training courses covered Burn Department, Vascular Department, and Surgical Department etc. The team visited more than 8 major doctors and had two consultations for large intensive burn and bed sore of newborn. A total of 7 training courses were held which benefit 480 local medical staff.
CME in Indonesia has done for several years which have relatively good foundation than the other new market. Application of MEBT/MEBO was also very common. Thus this CME aimed at further establishing the scientific concepts of MEBT/MEBO as well as enhancing standard application, tackling difficulties and concerns during application so as to increase doctors’ confidence during application. Moreover, encourage doctors to further expand indications of MEBT/MEBO. Meanwhile, like the CME in Malaysia and Middle East mode of CME in Indonesia also undergone some changes and innovations which means experts and technical support do the training together to better combine product, technical and clinical knowledge. Thus the effects of CME were maximized.

During the CME of Sukanto Police Hospital, we heard that Dr. Huntal was preparing to establish Burn Department. He has been to China and received training of MEBT/MEBO. After coming back, he has been devoted to the application of MEBT/MEBO in burn and other wound and also has a close relationship with Professor WANG. Professor Wang’s visit further deepened the relationship and enhances exchange between each other. Dr. Huntal play a vital role in promoting the establishment of Burn Department. President of the hospital and other orthopedic surgeons also attended the CME during which Professor WANG made a systemic introduction and demonstration about the clinical application of MEBT/MEBO in the treatment of burns, traumatic wounds and ulcers. Professor Wang’s lecture received highly praise which beyond our expectation.

During the CME, MEBO team also paid visit to Dr. Aditya, Director of Burn Department of Jakarta Government hospital. He has been to Sichuan Province and received training of MEBT/MEBO in 2009. He has always been using MEBT/MEBO and micro skin planting technique in saving many large intensive burn patients as well as traumatic patients and meanwhile he also made a presentation about MEBT/MEBO during the APBC in 2011 which make great contribution to the promotion and application of MEBT/MEBO. Professor WANG received warm welcome from Dr. Aditya and his colleagues and they made deep exchanges and training mainly include the principle of fluid resuscitation of MEBT/MEBO, antibiotic and nutritional support as well as other systemic treatment in the treatment of large extensive burn, micro skin planting, skin incision and tension relieving, necrotic tissue thinning, windowing etc. Professor WANG also made an analysis and demonstration for the treatment of electrical burn and inhalation injury. Medical staffs made clear notes during the training and proposed many questions about the details.

12th April, MEBO team attended the conference of Indonesia Medical Association. Professor WANG and Dr. Aditya attended the meeting made presentations respectively. A total of 250 doctors from Indonesia Medical Association attended the conference and received the training of MEBT/MEBO. Expert from China and Indonesia formed a strong alliance to demonstrate the innovativeness, uniqueness and superiority of MEBT/MEBO from different angles and levels which moved audience. Doctors all proposed questions and made one to one exchange and they wish to further promote the application of this technique to other area.

During the CME, MEBO team also had two consultations: large extensive burn and bedsore of newborn in which newborn cases have great significance. Because local doctor’ s experience on bedsore management was not enough and wound did not receive proper and timely management, patient’s superficial small wound developed into large Ⅳ wound which was very dangerous and became one of the tough problems in the Department. Professor WANG made a professional diagnosis and found out the origin of wound deterioration. He cleaned the wound and demonstrated dressing change by himself and also made a therapeutic plan and pointed out the precautions and key steps during treatment which help medical staff a lot. It was MEBT/MEBO who saved the little boy’s life.

Burn is still a tough problem for Indonesian doctors which high mortality. The CME further promote the application of MEBT/MEBO in the major hospitals of Indonesia which make breakthroughs in the treatment of burn and other traumatic wound and meanwhile with the CME doctors and patients confidence was boosted which lay a solid foundation for further promotion and popularization of MEBT/MEBO.
