The Impressions for 22 Years Development since the Birth of the NEW Burns, Wounds & Ulcer Regenerative Medical and Academic System

Firstly, I would like to show my appreciation to Minister Sun, Director Xiao, Committee Secretary Mu from Ministry of Public Health of China, and all domestic and oversee experts who participate this academic conference!  Herein, I would like to talk about my impressions about the development of the NEW burns wounds and ulcer regenerative medical and academic system in the opening ceremony.

In November 1988, the first “Chinese National Moist Burns Therapy Academic Conference” (The named was changed to the “National Burns Wound and Ulcer Academic Conference” since the second conference) was held in Beijing by Chinese Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine; and CCTV reported this news as a main topic that night (See the video on the website of m.327512.com).  The innovative medical and academic system overcame the four main problems of burns, which are pain, infection, progressive necrosis of stasis tissue and difficult wound healing.  More additionally, we solved the puzzle of treating extensive burns.  Since then, the “Moist Exposed Burn Therapy” becomes more and more popular national-wide in China.  In 1989, the Chinese Minister of Public Health issued the document to promote and popularize the application of “Moist Exposed Burn Therapy” all over the country; and “Chinese Burns Wounds and Ulcer Science Medical Center” was founded.  With the support of local Public Health authorities and governments, the first-aid network with local hospitals was set up soon.  This solved the problem for the treatment of burn wound and ulcer patients national-wide in a short period of time in china.  Then, “The Chinese Journal of Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers” was approved and set up by Chinese Ministry of Public Health, and since then, which demonstrates the NEW science of regenerative burns wounds and ulcer science and academic system was created.

In 1991, Chinese Ministry of Public Health started to promote this academic system all over the rural areas in China as one of the top 10 medical techniques from 100 technique achievements during those ten years, which achieved the popularity of this technique national-wide.  Soon after that, more than 90% TBSA burn injury patients can be treated in local rural hospitals, which is the most unprecedented achievement at that time.  In 1996, Chinese Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for burns injury was founded under the approval of Chinese Association for Science and Technology, and an academic network of national burns wounds and ulcer medical treatment was formed under the support of national health authorities and leaders in national academic system after that.  Regenerative burns wound and ulcer medical and academic experts worldwide made their contributions at this platform.

Under the support of Chinese Ministry of Public Health, the State Science and Technology Commission, Chinese Association for Science and Technology and Medical Committee, after 22 years development, national regenerative burns wounds and ulcer medical and academic society published “Blue Book for Burn Injury Therapy” which announced the first scientific report in human history about the induction from normal “tissue cell” to “stem cell” and skin tissue regeneration in situ.  Right until today, we have created several “No.1s” and “exclusive achievements” worldwide in the field of burns wounds and ulcer medical treatment and academy:

1, in the academic field, we are the first “academic society” which announced and founded NEW medical and academic treating system for burns wounds and ulcer medical treatment;

2, in the frontline of life science field, we are the first “academic society” which found “stem cells” on the wound site, introduced the theory of induction from tissue cells to stem cells, achieved skin tissue regeneration from stem cells in situ, and clinically realized human organ regeneration from stem cells successfully.

3, in the clinical field of burn injury, we are also the first “academic society” which conducted burned skin Regenerative treatment, and the only “academic society” which achieved burn regenerative medicine and therapy in situ for Extensive deep burn injuries;

4, in the clinical field of “wound & ulcer”, we are the first and only “academic society” which used skin regenerative therapy through stem cells in situ to treat ulcers, such as diabetic ulcer, lower limb ulcer, artery lower limb ulcer, etc.  And more, we applied the technique in normal clinic condition as routine techniques;

5, in the field of cancer therapy, we are the first “academic society” which clinically overcame some skin cancers.

6, until now, we haven’t found any other “academic society” worldwide have published any reports which could surpass our academic and medical level.

7, in 1989, American president Bush sent a letter to Chinese Ministry of Public Health through the embassy, saying that he hoped to introduce the Moist Exposed Burn Therapy to USA.  In 1990, a serious gas blast happened in Thailand, and the Thailand government asked for help from Chinese government. Chinese government sent our “academic society” to Thailand to rescue burned patients, and all patients treated by us recovered without any disabilities.  The king of Thailand thanked our state leaders as the following: “Sending the best doctors and receiving best recovering results”.  Until now, there are burns wounds and ulcer academic committees from more than 50 countries which have visited China and built relationship with us.

Led by Chinese Association of Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers, the new home-made “Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers Medical and Academic System” has been introduced to 50 countries and gradually become the main stream in the area.  It is spreading all over the world at a fairly fast speed now.  Chinese Association of Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers will report its latest advance to its counterparts of the world in the coming International Society for Burn Injuries (ISBI) to be held in Turkey in June this year.  Experts from the world will exchange the clinical reports applied the Chinese Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers technique and theory during the period.  Actually, we already realized the predict that “Could the Chinese Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers therapy change the world's approach to treating burn wound?”, “The world's current approach will be abandoned if this Chinese one succeeds” made by the famous journal---Newsweek of US In May 1990 (see m.327512.com).  While the fact is that the Chinese Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers Medical and Academic Society has already made it come true!

During the development of the NEW Chinese Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers Medical and Academic System, due to the uniqueness and newness, several individual specialists didn't understand it, hindered it, and even attacked it.  While, State Council of China laid down No. 82 document of central government issued by previous premier Li Peng, by which we were given recognition and protection.  Right after that, we were given support by The Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST) too.  Previous president Jiang Zemin reviewed this issue and gave an official reply to the Public Health Ministry about the lawsuit letter written by five academicians who were against our technique, saying that: “Academic dispute should not be solved by lawsuit; and any administrative department is banned to involve it.”  Since then, barriers from the specialists with different standpoints disappeared.  Then, later on, these five academicians repeated our experiments according to the study report of stem cell regeneration in situ published by us upon the publishing of “Blue book of Burn Wound Therapy”.  Then these five academicians joined us academically.  Though they haven't completely master the clinical burn wound therapy applied the skin regenerative technique, they won the Reward of National Science and Technology Progress by repeating the study of stem cell regeneration in situ, which manifested the further development of the new medical and academic system of the whole china.

In May 12th, 2008, the big earthquake happened in Sichuan province; entrusted and approved by the State Council, Public Health Ministry, supported by the committee of the association, cooperated with other teams of burn wound therapy, we rescued the injured and gave latest report to State Council.  Under the treatment of regenerative therapy, no burn wound patients died and disabled, no amputation for late infection while saving their lives, which showed that we did all our efforts to the injured.  At the same time, we established a big military-civilian joint medical point which served to both the injured and rescue soldiers; that was the only one at that time over there.  After that, we implemented the nationwide circuit rescue for follow up.   Due to above contribution, we were given national praise by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).  The Central Propaganda Department of china communist party awarded the Chinese journal of Burn Wound and Surface Ulcers as the “Advanced Journal of Earthquake Relief”.

Herein, on behalf of the rescue team of Burn Wound and Surface Ulcers, I would like to appreciate the support and protection of Central Committee of Chinese Communist Party, the State Council, The National Committee of Science and Technology, Public Health Ministry, China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).  Without the support and protection of them, you will never see our current Chinese Association of Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers.

Herein, we would also like to appreciate the previous leader of Public Health Ministry---Sun Longchun, the director of Science and Education Department of Public Health Ministry---Xiao Ziren, we appreciate the care and support from the leader of the School of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine and the General Secretary---Mu Dawei.  We appreciate the support from the leaders of Chinese Medical Doctor Association.  Without their consistently support and protection from the very beginning, you will never see the current development the NEW system and the Chinese Association of Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers.

Herein, we would also want to appreciate all the foreign specialists, present in the meeting or not, thank you for your efforts to bringing benefit to the people in your country by popularizing Regenerative Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers Therapy.

And more, as the academic leader, I am grateful for all the Chinese specialists in the NEW Burns Wounds & Surface Ulcers Regenerative Medical and Academic System, thank you for your efforts in establishing and developing it!
