Medical Promotion Gets Success in Philippines and Burns Regenerative Therapy Has Become Clinicians’ First Choice
----Philippine hospitals use burns regenerative therapy (BRT) in treating patients with extensive burns and trauma wounds

With two years’ joint efforts and active cooperation between Philippines Acuherb Company and MEBO Group International Department, the medical promotion of BRT in Philippines has received good results. At present, numbers of local hospitals introduce and use BRT invented by Prof. Xu Rongxiang successfully in treating patients with large-area burn wounds and kinds of refractory trauma wounds. Satisfactory results have been received and BRT has become local clinicians’ first treatment choice. Recently, Prof. Chen Yongchong, director of Clinical Department of Beijing Burns and Ulcers Technical Center and standing committee member of the Chinese Burns Association of the Integrity of Traditional and Western Medicine (CBAIM), received his second invitation from Philippines General Hospital, Bulacan General Hospital, Manila Doctor’s Hospital and other general hospitals to give lectures, technical training programs and clinical guidance. Satisfactory results have been produced.

I. Quirino Memorial Hospital has introduced burns regenerative therapy (BRT) and successfully treated patients with moderate burns and trauma wounds
Quirino Memorial Hospital, named after a late King whose name is Quirino, is a kind of governmental hospital as well as a teaching hospital with more than a hundred years’ history and covers an estimated 350 ward beds, including 10 beds of Burn Center. Since 2008 this hospital has used BRT to treat patients with moderate and small burns and trauma patients, and got satisfactory results. In the morning of July 30th in order to further improve the skills of BRT application, the hospital invited Prof. Chen to give a training program on BRT to 22 clinicians from Burns Department in the teaching room. After training, Prof. Chen was invited to Burns Center to give the clinical guidance. The training program and clinical guidance received great popularity and played an effective role in further standardizing the application of BRT in this hospital.

II. Bulacan General Hospital has applied BRT in treating trauma patients successfully
Bulacan General Hospital is the largest governmental hospital as well as a teaching hospital in Bulacan Province, covering 350 ward beds. Since the year of 2008, the hospital has used BRT to treat small-area burned patients and some trauma patients. And good results have been made. In the morning of July 31rd, Prof. Chen was invited to train more than 20 surgeons on BRT in the hospital. Prof. Chen explained in detail the treatment standards and technical key points of the application of BRT on trauma wounds. All the participants listened carefully and took notes and they expressed the training was quite meaningful and helpful.

III. Jose Reyes Hospital has extended the application of BRT to the treatment of trauma patients based on its successful treatment of burns
This hospital is a quite large governmental and teaching hospital in Manila, covering 550 ward beds. The Burn Center has successfully treated an estimated 80 burn patients with BRT since 2007, with the most successful case of treating a burned patient with 50% TBSA. In the morning of August 2nd, Prof. Chen was invited to give a training lecture on the improvement of clinical application of BRT to more than 40 clinicians and nurses from Burns Department and General Surgery Department. Further more, Prof. Chen gave the personal demonstration of bandaging therapy of BRT to the nurses from Burn Center. In the afternoon, Prof. Chen went to the Orthopaedics Department on invitation and hosted a training program on clinical treatment standards and technical key points of the application of BRT on traumas. Meanwhile Prof. Chen gave detailed demonstration and guidance on scene. This kind of teaching method combined with theory and practice was well received by the clinical surgeons and nurses.

IV. Manila Doctor’s Hospital uses BRT successfully in treating trauma patients
The hospital is the second largest private hospital in Manila as well as a teaching hospital, with an estimated 500 ward beds. At the beginning of 2009, the hospital began to use BRT in treating some refractory wounds and received satisfactory results. In the afternoon of August 3rd, Prof. Chen was invited to give more than 20 clinicians from Orthopedics and General Surgery Department a clinical training lecture on the application of BRT in treating kinds of refractory wounds. The training lecture received great popularity from the audience and all the participants expressed that they learned a lot from this training and it provided them with a much more effective method to treat refractory wounds in the future.

V. East Avenue Hospital has used BRT successfully in treating a extensive deep burn patient with 60% TBSA
The hospital is another large governmental and teaching hospital in Manila, covering 450 ward beds. Since 2007 the hospital has used BRT in successfully treating an estimated 50 burn patients. And so far an extensive deep burn patient with 67% TBSA is successfully treated by BRT and healed without skin grafting operation and with no scar formation. In the morning of August 4th, Prof. Chen was invited to give more than 20 clinicians and nurses from the Burns Center a training program on the improvement of clinical application of BRT on treating burns, traumas and ulcers. Further more, Prof. Chen demonstrated the semi-exposure therapy of BRT on burns for all the nurses from the Burn Center to further standardize the wound treatment therapy and laid the foundation for larger area burn patients treatment in the future. Besides, Prof. Chen gave the consultation for the treating on a patient with severe neck radiation ulcers. With more than 2 years’ traditional treatment (including routine dressing change, dissociated skin grafting, musculocutaneous flap transplant and so on), the wounds still could not be covered. After comprehensive understanding of the patient’s conditions, Prof. Chen gave his new method: first, enhance nutrition support treatment and correct symptoms of anemia and hypoproteinemia; second, use BRT bandaging therapy on the wounds, manage dressing change once or twice daily, avoid any wound washing with disinfector or antibiotics so as to activate and initiate tissue cells regeneration; third, avoid any systematic application of antibiotics if without any aggressive infection. With Prof. Chen’s instructions, it is known by telephone communication that at present the patient’s conditions have improved satisfactorily.

VI. Philippines Orthopaedic Hospital introduced BRT to treat kinds of refractory orthopaedic wounds
This hospital is the largest special hospital as well as a governmental and teaching hospital, with 700 ward beds. There are numbers of patients admitted with refractory bedsores and orthopaedic wounds. Because of a lack of effective treating method, these wounds could not be covered for quite a long time, which terribly tortured the patients and medical care staff. At the news that one advanced technique from China is helpful for the treatment of kinds of refractory wounds, the hospital invited Prof. Chen to give a training lecture to more than 20 orthopaedic clinicians on the application of BRT in treating refractory wounds in the afternoon of August 4th . And after lecture, Prof. Chen gave the scene demonstration so as to make all the participants have a better understanding and learning of this technique.
