By today the science blog (http://blog.sina.com.cn/rongxiangxu) of Xu Rongxiang, M.D., who has earned the title of “the most controversial scientist” by his continuing efforts in challenging the forefront of life sciences worldwide, has attracted over 10 million visitors.  This has created a record of the highest online traffic to a blog utilized by a scientist to release scientific research results in China, even in the world.

Since Dr. Xu set up his blog on www.sina.com.cn, the largest web portal in China, in early December of 1007, he has continuously published many results from his cutting- edge research in the forefront of life sciences.  Within just 2 months, the traffic to his blog has reached 10 millions.  During this period of time, Dr. Xu published on the blog 40 articles related to the results obtained from his innovative research in the forefront of life sciences.  Each and every article of his is dealt with the most difficult questions of human life and the toughest diseases, as well as the forefront of life science research.

Dr. Xu states that there are two reasons for him to release the research results as quickly as possible in a form of blog: 1) to allow other researchers to use them as references; and 2) to allow lay people to enjoy the fruits of the research.  “By using the blog, a modern online communication platform, I could quickly inform the public of our search results.  Originally I thought about following the traditional way of communication: disclosing to the scientific community which then would communicate to the public at large.  Later I changed my mind as I was concerned that since my research approach and methodology are so different from other researchers’ in the field and I may not be able to effectively communicate with them within a short period of time, it would be impossible for them immediately follow suit as a result.  I have learned my lessons from my earlier efforts to revolutionize the technology of burn treatment.  It took me 20 years to carry out the revolution and I just achieved some preliminary success in allowing many burn patients to benefit from the innovative technology invented by me.  If I did not change the way the technology is communicated, it might still take another 20 years to make it available to many ordinary people in the world.”

Dr. Xu further states, “Scientific researchers do not just disclose complicated scientific data to the public, but also should inform them of simple and practical methods which are beneficial to them.  We have done so through the platform of blog, which has been enthusiastically welcome by the public.  Facing the results from our research, many scientists, I believe, will quickly join us to form a new team of scientific research and a new alliance of scientists.  In the current age of information, we could rely on the platform of online blog to timely disclose to the public the results of our research so as to benefit people allover the world.  Based what has been accomplished in the application of the technology to humans, more articles disclosing the new results will gradually be published on my blog.  Our research is still ongoing.  As long as the research keeps going, my blog will keep open.”
