Bandung, with a population of about 5 million, is the third largest city in Indonesia. Since last May, Prof. Yongchong Chen, M.D., accompanied by his colleagues Mr. Haojing Jia, has been to Bandung several times for academic promotion and technical training of MEBO’s Burns Regenerative Therapy (BRT) and the basic science behind BRT. Since that, BRT, coupled with MEBO’s Wound Ointment, has been widely used in the city’s major hospitals, and has gained an excellent reputation for its remarkable therapeutic effects. Recently, Prof. Chen and Mr. Jia were invited again to two of the city’s hospitals for technical training, clinical supervision and operational demonstration.
1. Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung
Hasan Sadikin Hospital is the biggest governmental hospital in Southwestern Indonesia, as well as a teaching hospital, covering over 2000 ward beds, and with a separate Burn Department. In 2006 BRT with MEBO in treating burn wounds was first introduced to this hospital, and used for clinical treatment of patients in May 2008. Up until now, about 40 cases of burn and ulcer patients, with the largest TBA 55%, have been successfully treated.
On November 24, 2008, Prof. Chen and Mr. Jia were invited to Hasan Sadikin Hospital for case discussion, clinical supervision and technical training of MEBO’s Burns Regenerative Therapy to the doctors and nurses from the Burn Department. This visit played an important role in standardization of the treatment protocols in treating burn wounds and skin ulcers, and in the popularization of the clinical application of BRT as well as the team building with MEBO’s international collaborators.
2. R. S. Immanuel Hospital, Bandung
R. S. Immanuel Hospital is the third largest private hospital in Bandung, as well as a teaching hospital, covering over 400 ward beds. At present time, the Burn Department is under construction. In 2006, MEBO’s Burns Regenerative Therapy was first introduced to this hospital; in 2007, a preliminary clinical application was initiated; until May 2008, after the technical training by MEBO, a more comprehensive application of BRT with MEBO Wound Ointment was started. Up until now, about 60 cases of burn wound and ulcer patients, with the largest TBA 80%, have been successfully treated.
From Nov. 18 to 19, Prof.Chen was invited to R.S.Immanuel Hospital to attend the consultation for a severely burned patient. In addition, Prof. Chen conducted technical training and clinical demonstration to the doctors and nurses from the Burn Department. To the satisfaction of the hospital, at the meeting lively discussions were held on how to exploit the great technical advantages of BRT in order to develop regenerative medicine and sciences in the Burn Department.
From their 3-day visit to Bandung, the MEBO team learned that the earlier efforts to promote the use of BRT in Indonesia has laid a solid groundwork for later steady growth and promotion of MEBO’s regenerative medicine and science among Bandung’s major hospitals to benefit more patients.
