Multidisciplinary Application of MEBT/MEBO in Thailand

From 18 to 23rd June 2012, a one week continued medical education carried out smoothly in Bangkok. MEBO team was composed of Professor WANG Hong-sheng, Standing committee member and secretary of CBAIM, vice chief editor of the Chinese Journal of Burns Wounds and Ulcers, Deputy Director of Beijing MEBO Institute of Burns Wounds and Ulcers, Director of Clinical Department and SHU Ye, Chief of the Product Department. MEBO team visited five hospitals in Bangkok and surrounding areas with the companion of MEBO Thailand and DKSH.
In the morning of 18th June, MEBO team paid a visit to the headquarters of DKSH one of the local partners and introduced the mechanism of in situ skin regeneration of MEBT/MEBO to four supervisors. Detailed introduction and demonstration help them have a overall understanding of MEBO science. They all admitted that they will further study the articles of MEBT/MEO so as to make a good preparation for the promotion of this technique in Thailand.

After that, MEBO team came to the Emergency Department of Paolo Siam Hospital and answered all the questions proposed by Dr. Thaweesak and Dr. Kawee during clinical practice. Meanwhile, one of the patients of Dr. Thaweesak after thoracotomy had a large keloid formed on the incision and ask for help for the hypertrophic scar. Professor WANG gave some suggestions during consultation and stressed that reoccurrence rate of MEBT/MEBO with surgery in the treatment of scar is low and suggest the doctors to have a try.

On 19th June, MEBO team had a meeting with 4 doctors and 15 nurses from the Accident Ward of Kampaeng Pet Hospital regarding the up to date progress of MEBT/MEBO in the treatment of bedsore. Among them, Dr. Akaropong is the key doctor who has began use MEBT/MEBO from 2011. Now, most of the burn patients in his department were treated by MEBT/MEBO. After the lecture, Professor WANG demonstrated the standard procedure of bandaging therapy and exposed therapy for two burned patients in order to help the nurses grasp the standard application of MEBT/MEBO. Nurses and Doctors recorded the procedure during the demonstration. During the consultation, expert from China also attracted doctors of internal medicine and ask for help for a patient with GI bleeding.

From 20th to 21st June MEBO team visted Nopparat hospital and Somdejprainklao Hospital and introduced the up to date progress of MEBT/MEBO to 17 doctors and 30 nurses.

One 22 June, MEBO team came to visit Medisci Anti-aging Center, a private clinic built by Dr. Atchina Sarwanthinda, she is the honorary member of American Laser Therapy Association and graduated from famous Boston University. She is good at treating various skin problems such as scar, birthmark, plaque and skin wounds with laser and enjoyed a very good reputation in her filed. She has been using MEBO for several years but never received a systemic training of MEBT/MEBO.

Dr. Atchina said that MEBO have very good therapeutic effects on laser wound. She was eager to witness the clinical experience and procedure of MEBT/MEBO combined with laser in treating various scars. Professor made a detailed introduction about the application of MEBT/MEBO in China via demonstration of different clinical cases. Dr. Atchina also inqured about the treatment of different wounds and scars. She also expressed that this is a very good technique and product and she is now doing some comparative clinical study and wish to have in depth cooperation with Professor WANG. MEBO team also hoped Dr. Atchina can make a conclusion of her experience and issued an article in magazines or periodicals. This September MEBO will attend the ISBI and there are lots of opportunities like this. So they hope Dr. Atchnia can attend such kind of conference and share her experience so that more and more people will know this outstanding technique and product.

During the 5 days continued medical education a total of 32 doctors and 40 nurses were trained regarding the clinical application of MEBT/MEBO in bedsore and scars. During the training MEBO team had face to face communication with 6 major doctors and demonstrated the standard procedure of MEBT/MEBO for two patients.
We believe the continued medical education will boost doctor’s confidence of MEBT/MEBO in the treatment of bedsore and scars and meanwhile will lay a solid foundation of the multi-subject application of MEBT/MEBO in Thailand.
