Congratulations to MEBO (Shantou) for Obtaining GMP Certificate Issued by State Administration of Food Supervision

At the end of February of 2014, Shantou MEBO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd obtained GMP certificate issued by State Administration of Food Supervision with its continuous efforts for the past 300 days. It is China’s first enterprise that obtains GMP approval for its traditional Chinese sterilized compound ointment (not terminal sterilization).

GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), an international rule about fundamental standard for medicine production quality management, is a critical technical standard that must be followed in medical products production and a fundamental item and standard for evaluating medicine quality safeguarding system and participating international medicine trade. As a core production enterprise of MEBO, Shantou MEBO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd is responsible for the products supply for both domestic and international markets. Just like lifeline of MEBO, it would be very important for it to obtain GMP approval in order to guarantee product supply for domestic and international markets and to follow the long-term development strategy. The obtaining of certificate will definitely lay a solid foundation for MEBO’s domestic and international development.

GMP for medicines requires scientific, reasonable and standardized regulations about the conditions and methods related to the whole production process involving purchasing and inspection of raw and auxiliary materials, feeding, preparation processing, quality inspection, warehousing and delivery of products in an effort to guarantee that medicine producers can provide qualified products in a stable manner. The Chinese GMP (modified version) referred to that of European countries. Therefore, its level increased. For Chinese medicine producers, especially the traditional Chinese medicine manufacturers, great challenges lie ahead. Faced with the new situations, Shantou MEBO made joint efforts and completed the transformation of old workshop and optimized the product craft and realized production of sterilized ointment with traditional Chinese compounds for the first time in China. By the end of 2013, there were 597 enterprises that manufacture sterilized medical products obtained GMP certificate, accounting for 45.3% of all such enterprises. Shantou MEBO, as one of the first batch of enterprises, set an example for unprecedented inspection standards.

GMP is a state standard represents new concept of quality management and guarantee. GMP certificate is a high level certificate integrating software, hardware, security, health and environmental protection. And, the approval of GMP and enhancement of quality management can serve as the basis for the survival and development of enterprises. Also, it will be the only way of medicine producers to integrate with international quality standards systems. Now, Shantou MEBO passed a strict exam and ascended to a higher level of medicine manufacturing, representing that its software and hardware level reach to national standards and quality management and product quality echo that of international enterprises. In the mean time, this helped promote the development of its domestic markets and build a strong platform for the faster development of MEBO Group.
