U.S. 2023 APEC Outcomes: Highlights Bay Area Council Activities as Key Achievements
The U.S. Department of State released the U.S. 2023 APEC Outcomes Report on November 17, 2023, emphasizing remarkable advancements in sustainability, inclusivity, digital innovation, and resilient economic growth. The report highlighted several significant initiatives, including the Manoa Agenda for Sustainable and Inclusive Economies, the Digital Pacific Agenda championing digital transformation, and the Bay Area Agenda on Resilient and Inclusive Growth.
A pivotal event among the stakeholder initiatives was APEC Meets California and Silicon Valley, a five-day series of conferences and activities organized by the Bay Area Council (BAC). This gathering aimed to bolster engagement among APEC member economies through discussions on vital issues such as trade, investment, and technological advancement. From November 13 to 17, key stakeholders convened at the “Historic Klamath,” BAC’s floating headquarters in San Francisco, to forge new pathways for economic resilience and regional cooperation.
Kevin Xu, as Chair of the APEC Host Committee, member of the Board of Directors, Co-Chair of the International Committee, and Chair of the APEC Task Force for the Bay Area Council, played an instrumental role in driving the success of the 2023 APEC agenda. His efforts in orchestrating the collaboration of multiple stakeholders significantly broadened the impact of the APEC engagements through diverse platforms and formats.
The APEC Economic Leaders’ Week was marked by extensive public and stakeholder engagements, with nearly 30 initiatives drawing participation from over 3,000 senior officials and business leaders globally. Notable among these were the APEC Multi-Stakeholder Forum, the University Leaders’ Forum, and the APEC Meets California and Silicon Valley Series, emphasizing the importance of proactive educational and policy-oriented dialogues for fostering a more prosperous and resilient Asia-Pacific.
