Medical Promoting Efforts in Malaysia Receives Great Effects When Strikes as the Iron is Hot

On Nov 22nd 2009, the key media , which has the biggest circulation and enjoys the greatest influence in Malaysia uses two full pages to cover a report on the clinical effects and new theories of burns regenerative medicine (BRT) and Moist Exposed Burn Ointment(MEBO) in the treatment of burns, which makes the Malaysians a much better choice to know the features and advantages of BRT and many hospitals introduce the therapy in treating kinds of large area burns, ulcers and refratory wounds with nice clinical results. While in their early stage of clinical use of BRT, some doctors have many problems about the standard application. In order to help them solve these problems, Prof. Chen, committee member of the Chinese Burns Association of the Integrity of Traditional and Western Medicine (CBAIM), deputy director of CBAIM Beijing Subcommittee and deputy president of Beijing Guangming Medicine Burns and Ulcer Research Institute accompanied with Malaysia Region Manager Mr. Xu Chong was invited by local distributor and many hospitals to Malaysia for a week for the second medical promotion, technical training programs and clinical instructions. All the efforts were done while the iron was hot so great results had been received and warmly welcomed by Malaysian clinicians.

On Dec 9th 8am attended by distributor Mr. Shiew Manhon, Prof. Chen and Mr. Xu arrived in the hospital Sungai Buloh Ministry of Health at invitation and visited the Burns Division. It is a governmental hospital, covering 650 ward beds. Our arrival received kind reception of the Director of Burns Division Dr. Salina and other clinicians and nurses. In Oct 2009, one training program on the clinical application of BRT was hosted in the hospital and many doctors and nurses participated the training and learned the application of BRT in treating kinds of small area burns and ulcers. That training ended with nice results. Recently, one case of severe sulfuric acid burn patient was adopted. While the medical care staff was not very confident in their successful treatment of this patient who was with large area and deep burn wounds. In order to assist them in treating this patient successfully, Prof. Chen exchanged treatment ideas and consulted with Dr. Salina through the internet and provided remote technical supports before he came to Malaysia. While Prof. Chen’s visit just acted as a timely rain for the thirsty learners.

In the morning, Prof. Chen made a professional lecture on “Systemic Treatment of Extensive Burns” for the whole medical care staff of the Burns Division, mainly on the training of the use of BRT in extensive burns anti-shock, anti-infection, multi-organ protection and nutritional support therapy and so on. Chen introduced the learners combined with his 20 years’ clinical experience and meanwhile he took some typical cases for examples and suggested many treating suggestions, which greatly assisted them. Then Prof. Chen made the medical consultation on the treatment of nine burn and ulcer patients and instructed the dressing change methods on scene for the doctors and nurses. Meanwhile Chen stressed the principles of management and requested them to combine theory and practice together for better clinical results. In the afternoon, Prof. Chen past on “Regenerative Technology of Micro-skin Auto-grafting Culture in situ” and demonstrated the advanced technology to the director and medical care staff of Burns Division, which greatly helped the further introduction and application of BRT in the Burns Division of the hospital.

In the morning of Dec 10th, Prof Chen and Mr. Xu arrived in the city of Kuala Terengganu in the north of Malaysia and paid a special visit to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah for consultation and clinical training. The hospital is the key hospital in Malaysia which has introduced and applied BRT in clinical practices. Chen attended the consultation for a extensively deep burn patient (male, 77 years old, burned by firm, with TBSA of 35% Deep Third Degree burn wounds on his stomach, perineum and lower limbs). After carefully observing the detailed conditions of the patient, Chen gave professional suggestions on the treatment of anti-shock with fluid infusion, anti-infection and organ function protection. Meanwhile Chen instructed and guided the doctors how to analyze and judge patients’ conditions, how to perform standard dressing changes and eschar incision and tension relaxation for deep wounds. Thanks to the effective treatment and standard wounds management, the condition of the patient was stable. More over, Prof. Chen was invited to consult for 7 cases of different severities of burns, ulcers, cancer wounds and scar on deep wounds and made detailed explanation to doctors and nurses clinical difficulties. All of them felt excited at Prof. Chen’s personal instruction, which strengthened their clinical confidence. After consultation, Chen hosted a systemic training program for all the staff in Burns Division.
