China’s “Regenerative Therapy” Enables Regenerative Healing of Burned and Wounded Patients
September 24, 2008, ChinaNews.Com:
Large-area burn wounds healed via regeneration of new skin in situ; Infection of severe open wounds can be readily prevented; amputation due to non-healing of infected wounds can be avoided; and diabetic ulcer, considered to be a major challenge by the medical community worldwide, can heal easily. This is the latest information reporters have obtained from the 10th National Conference on Burns, Wounds and Ulcers.
At this conference held on September 23 at Yaan, Sichuan Province, more than three hundred medical experts in treating burns, wounds and ulcers converged to share their clinical experiences in using a “Regenerative Therapy” to treat wound patients, including clinicians from hospitals in the May 12 earthquake disaster zone in Sichuan: People’s Hospital of Wenchuan County, People’s Hospital of Deyang, People’s Hospital of Guangyuan, People’s Hospital of Yaan, Fire Department General Hospital of the Police in Sichuan Province, Shifang Hospital for Burn Care, People’s Hospital of Mianyang, and No.2 People’s Hospital of Chengdu. According to these doctors at the conference, they have used the Regenerative Therapy in their hospitals and have not observed any occurrence of gas gangrene, nor had to resort to limb amputation due to wound infection. As reported by doctors from Fire Department General Hospital of the Police in Sichuan Province and Shifang Hospital for Burn Care, which were designated to be the centers for treating the burns and wounds of earthquake victims, they have used the Regenerative Therapy to treat all of the enrolled victims who suffered from various degrees of wounds in small or large body areas, and none of the patients died or became disabled after healing of the wounds, resulting in a 100% recovery of all the patients.
What touched the hearts of all the attending doctors was that a 9 yr-old girl made a special trip from Mianyang to Yaan, just to present a bouquet of flowers to Dr. Rongxiang Xu, inventor of the Regenerative Therapy. Her name is Chi Yang, an earthquake victim whose lower left leg endured an open wound with broken bones and the wound had been infected, a condition considered to be grim by many wound experts who were joining the quake rescue efforts at that time and had a chance to evaluate her. The doctors recommended amputation in order to save her life. Soon after, Dr. Xu, who served as the captain of China Wound Expert Team for Earthquake Rescue and Disaster Relief and had been visiting hospitals in the disaster zone to supervise the treatment, attended the joint consultation in People’s Hospital of Deyang where Chi Yang was enrolled. Under Dr. Xu’s supervision, the doctors used Dr. Xu’s Regenerative Therapy to treat her, which successfully controlled the infection of her wound and subsequently enabled the growth of fresh, granulation tissues on the wound bed. With the joint efforts of the surgeons there, little Chi Yang’s wound healed rapidly and her left leg is kept, thus allowing her to grow happily and enjoy a lively, normal life. To express their profound gratitude toward Dr. Xu for inventing the Regenerative Therapy, little Chi Yang and her mother came to the conference site to thank Dr. Xu by presenting him a bouquet of flowers. At the conference Chi Yang was also awarded as one of the National Wound Healing Stars after the attending 300-plus doctors thoroughly evaluated the condition of her left leg.
The doctors also awarded the title of “Burn/Wound Healing Star” to 16 burn patients who survived over 90% total body surface area burned, and 7 patients whose severe wounds healed. These patients have all been successfully treated with the Regenerative Therapy; they not only survived but also can continue to live a normal life without disability. These awards were granted to them upon evaluation of their conditions by the doctors at the conference. Because a star selection process is a national contest, those doctors whose patients are awarded with the star title are considered to be at the highest medical levels nationwide.
There is data showing that every year in our nation there are close to a million people who are disabled to various extents due to burn injury. Burn injury not only causes pain and threatens the lives of the patients, but also imposes a heavy burden on society.
The Regenerative Therapy is invented by Dr. Rongxiang Xu, our nation’s leader in the field of burns, wounds and ulcers. This medical technology has been adopted by 23 countries to be used in routine and emergency treatment of wounds. The core technology of the Regenerative Therapy is based on stimulation of cells in the residual viable tissue at the wound site to become new, regenerative tissue cells, which, when cultured in the presence of a set of complete nutrients, regenerate to form tissue-organs in situ, resulting in the regeneration of new tissues and new skin on the wound that has lost the skin due to the injury.
