The Brightness of Burn Regenerative Medicine in Indonesia National Burn Meeting

After one year’s organization and preparation, ‘Indonesia National Burn Meeting’ was successfully held from Aug 6 to 8 2010 at Borobudur Hotel in Djakarda, the capital of Indonesia, hosted by the Indonesian Society of Burn and Plastic Surgery and undertaken by the Cipto Hospital of Indonesian University ( the largest hospital in Indonesia with 2000 beds). The theme of this meeting is ‘Updating Clinicians Knowledges in Burn Wound Management’. There were more than 300 surgeons and nurses of burn, plastics and general surgery taking participation in this meeting. Prof. Chen Yongchong, the Clinical Director of China National Science and Technology Center for Burns, Wounds and Ulcers, the vice director committee member of Chinese Burn Association of the Integration of Traditional and Western Medicine and the Vice Proprieter of Chinese Journal of Burns, Wounds and Ulcers, was formally invited to give keynote speech in this meeting by Indonesia Society of Burn and Plastic Surgery and the meeting committee. And the keynote speech brought out strong echoes and stir in the Indonesian burn field. Meanwhile, the Combiphar company (the cooperating partner of MEBO in Indonesia), as the main sponsor of this meeting, delicately designed and built up the large MEBO Burn Regenerative Medicine exhibition booth under the overall engineering and management by MEBO International Business Dept. in order to get better propaganda effects And Mr. Wu Yun, the regional manager of Indonesia market of MEBO International Business Dept., brought the newest materials about regenerative medicine for this meeting and intensively introduced the regenerative techniques and products to the participating doctors and nurses in the meeting progression. The regenerative products and techniques were greatly preferred by the participants as well as the brightness of the keynote speech about regenerative medicine and the uniqueness of exhibition booth were both showed in this meeting.

At 8 am, July 8, the meeting was formally opened. The exhibition booth with a theme of ‘Fast Skin Regeneration in situ’ had been built up earlier in the morning by the MEBO team of Combiphar Company, fully displaying the technical features and superiority of Burn Regenerative Medicine invented by Prof. Xu Rongxiang. It was only for half day that there were more than 150 participants visited around MEBO exhibition booth. Many of them shared their treasurable experience in terms of clinical application of MEBT/MEBO and raised a few suggestions with MEBO team. To the end of meeting, more than 300 doctors and nurses were received around MEBO exhibition booth with all prepared materials about regenerative medicine distributed out. And also the exhibition booth became the exclusive area provided for the participating medical staffs to communicate and learn with each other.

At 9 am, Aug 8, Prof. Chen Yongchong gave the keynote speech called ‘the clinical experience of Burn Regenerative Medicine in the treatment of mass TBSA burns’ lasting for 35 minutes. Prof. Chen introduced his transiting process from the traditional skin-grafting practice to the Burn Regenerative Medicine in the treatment of burns, shared his own successful experience and understanding about the Burn Regenerative Medicine in burn treatment with participants, explained the mechanism of the transformation of somatic cells to stem cells and in situ skin regenerative restoration by stem cells proposed by Prof. Xu Rongxiang and gave an introduction of the application status and the new progression of Burn Regenerative Medicine in P.R. China and worldwide. Prof. Chen’s lecture was very successful and popular, winning heavy applause from participants. After the lecture, several experts actively asked their doubts that included the clinical procedures and key-points of Burn Regenerative Medicine and Techniques, the mechanism of skin regeneration, how the Burn Regenerative Medicine realizes the cleansing of necrotic tissues without damage by the way of liquefaction and the major components and pharmacological effects of MEBO ointment. There was a senior expert joking,' indeed, as the Burn Regenerative Medicine is so amazing and superior, it should be wide-spread to the every corner of the world to benefit more burn patients, just like the Chinese Kongfu.’ Then, Prof. Chen gave detailed explanations about their questions one by one patiently with the assistance of Mr. Wu Yun who answered the questions about components of MEBO ointment and etc. After that, all of them felt benefiting very much.

Moreover, in addition to the keynote speech given by Prof. Chen, Dr. Aditya Wardhana, from the burn and plastics surgical department of Cipto hospital in Djakarta disclosed his clinical experience in the burn management with a lecture named as ‘Topical Dressing for Burn’ which was greatly favored, especially for his personal experience of learning Burn Regenerative Medicine in Cichuan Province China 2008 and the later successful employment of Burn Regenerative Medicine after returning home to treat and cure more than 40 burn patients. Furthermore, Dr. Teddy from the same department and hospital introduced his clinical experience in the treatment of deep burns on head and extremities with Burn Regenerative Medicine and uncovered a few successful cases by which testified the amazing and superiority of Burn Regenerative Medicine from the aspect of practical application. As a result, the Burn Regenerative Medicine became the hot topic in this meeting under the cooperating lectures from domestic and oversea experts and pushed the academic atmosphere of this meeting to the climax.

During the meeting, Prof. Chen was also invited to Harapan Burda Hospital to consult and direct the treatment of one mass severe burn patient. The 47-year-old male patient was burned by the flame of petrol with total burn surface areas (TBSA) up to 75%, the burn surface areas of full dermal thickness up to 45% and deep partial thickness up to 30%. After he arrived at the ward, he carefully examined the patient and gave an accurate diagnosis, then conducted the medical discussion with medical staffs there and set out the treating plan of local and systemic treatments. Finally, he demonstrated the standard procedures of ‘ploughing and tension-relieving’ technique and dressing-change in person. Now, the patient is still receiving the treatment of Burn Regenerative Medicine.

This academic conference, held by Indonesia Society of Burn and Plastics Surgery once year is one of the national programmes of further education of medicine. And the participants would gain 10 points of national I-class continuing education. At this meeting, the number of participant was the most compared to previous ones. Despite of the expensive fees up to 3 million rupee (about 300 USD), the participants deserved to pay for the new knowledge about Burn Regenerative Medicine. Many doctors from cities thousands miles far away from Djakarta, decided to attend after hearing of the lecture about regenerative medicine being given in this meeting in order to learn more about this leading therapy. At the end of this meeting, the committee members of this meeting were gratified with the unexpected successful, dynamic and preferable burn meeting that had been held as a result of the lectures about regenerative medicine and officially offered another invitation for MEBO delegation and Prof. Chen to participate the  Indonesia Burn meeting next year.
