The more peculiar innovation, the much greater innovation

First, I met Prof. Xu in 1991when I worked in the State Foreign Expert Bureau. I got to know that many of his suggestions on burns treatment were opposed by many people. In my experience of years’ working experience in scientific technology research and national science and technology management, I said to him that whether you could let me see some examples. In a later opportunity, the General Hospital of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited admitted one patient with burn wounds of his whole body. It cost 50 days for the treatment from the patient in bed receiving bronchia incision surgery, and later generaldropsy until his recovery and standing up at last. During the course, I went to see the patient 5 times just in order to examine if he could be treated by Xu successfully. While the result showed that he was healed! Only one case is insufficient to prove anything. And at that time last two Ministers for Health proposed to seek the roles in groups. Then I continued my observation in the General Hospital of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited and I was very surprised at many treatment results. There were patients with hand burns, face burns and scalds in the wards. The two things surprised me the most were that first no groans of pain could be heard in the wards and further more no patients received injection of sedative. One minister of Singapore Ministry of Health had been here and was also surprised at this situation. Second I felt more surprised at that during the whole course of treatment Prof. Xu Rongxiang applied no alcohol for sterilization of the burn wounds. While as we all know that the application of alcohol for wound sterilization is the science the western treasure the most. But Prof. Xu took no use of it. Later on it was verified at my own home. Since 1980s my mother-in-law has been incapable of self-care because of rheumatoid arthritis and long-time bedding caused her serious bedsores. Then when Prof. Xu and I chatted in the meeting room, my mother-in-law received treatment of her bedsores in another room and her groans of pain during the alcohol sterilization of bedsore wounds were heard by us. Prof. Xu asked me the reason. After knowing her bedsore treatment, Xu suggested to just use Moist Exposed Burn Ointment (MEBO). Then with MEBO, there was no pain indeed and with no more application of alcohol, my mother-in-law’s bedsore was healed. It was very marvelous! So with my own experience I believe it a miracle. Further more I have the courage and confidence to help Prof. Xu with his difficulties. Just because I get all the information from my own personal experiences.

Second, according to the usual practice of national scientific and technical projects undertaking, what Prof. Xu plans to do should be financially sponsored by the state. But until nowadays I get to know that Xu has never applied any national project or any other funding support. It is he that personally founded and managed the businesses dedicated to burns treatment. He has succeeded in financing, project setting up and doing research all by his own wisdom. Internationally many standout achievements often are achieved by enterprises self-financing efforts.

Third, any innovation should be unprecedented. I have concluded that the individuality of the innovation always stands in inverse proportion to the consensus of society. The more peculiar innovation and the greater innovation will be. And it will take a long time for the society to accept it. Sometimes it is not only understood or supported but also opposed. In the past the opposition from his peers was the strongest in the society. What is the kind of belief that backs him to the final success? I guess that is his personal disposition and quality. I have known Prof. Xu for a long period of time and see in him the spirits of no giving up and no fearing. Generally people dare not take certain scientific and technological projects without governmental financial supports while Prof. Xu still persisted in his pursue among all sides opposition. And he succeeds at last. I would like contribute his great success to his strong determination and his intellectual scientific thoughts. As a scientist, Xu Rongxiang possesses original academic achievements and meanwhile he is rich of noble qualities. I would like to issue the advice to the press circles to cover reports about Xu Rongxiang in order to make the whole society know him.

That is to say, the US is just at the starting point. And I felt that it has a great significance to publish this book as soon as possible.
