In order to gain a thorough comprehension of the application of regenerative medicine and techniques in Thailand and to enhance academic exchanges and promote regenerative science and techniques, recently Professor Chen Yongchong, director of the Chinese Burn Association of the Integration of Traditional and Western Medicine (CBAIM) and his assistant Mr. Wu Yun were assigned to the Siriraj Hospital, the largest public hospital in Thailand and Phyathai 1st Hospital, a famous private hospital, for academic visits and market exploration. During the visit, Prof. Chen held friendly exchanges on clinical experience with clinicians there and gave them technical guidance and clinical demonstrations. Further more, Prof. Chen not only answered their questions one by one patiently but also demonstrated dressing changes on site. All the clinicians highly appreciated Prof. Chen’s visits. Meanwhile, this visit facilitated further monitoring
On January 20th 2009, Professor Chen and his assistant visited the Siriraj Hospital. It is the affiliated teaching hospital of Thailand Medical College. It is the largest public hospital in Thailand, covering 1400 ward beds in total and with a population of 800 clinicians, among over 70 surgeons (nine from Department of Burn). The president of Thailand Academy of Traumatology Dr. Chomoka holds a post in the hospital. He is among the first generation of doctors that initiate the clinical application of MEBT/MEBO in Thailand and he has sound academic relationship with Dr. Xu. While it is a pity that he happened to be abroad for international academic exchanges, Prof. Chen had the engagement with his assistant Dr. Raywat, the attending physician of Burn Department. During their meeting, Prof. Chen presented Dr. Raywat a vivid introduction of recent development of regenerative medicine and its new advancements in many medical divisions. Dr. Raywat said that he would make a thorough report on this meeting to Dr. Chomoka when he returned.
In the afternoon, Prof. Chen was invited to the Phyathai 1st Hospital, a five-star private hospital in Thailand, covering over 200 ward beds. It is nationally famous for treating patients from the noble, even the King. Dr. Sarawut, director of Major Surgery Department warmly received Prof. Chen and his assistant. Prof. Chen gave Dr. Sarawut and other clinicians a thorough introduction on recent development of regenerative medicine, technological specification in clinic and clinical application of regenerative medicine in various divisions, which aroused a strong response among the listeners. Besides Prof. Chen patiently answered their questions that they met during their clinical performance. After that, accompanied by Dr. Sarawut, Prof. Chen went to the wards for clinical guidance and demonstration of wound management and dressing changes for two patients, one suffering from bedsores with long-term difficult-to-heal wounds and the other with severe scrape wounds on the lower leg. Besides, in this meeting, Prof. Chen and Dr. Sarawut together worked out a program for clinical studies titled control study of wounds healing treated by biological dressing and MEBT/MEBO. On departure, they informed both contact methods and appointed for discussions on clinical application of regenerative medicine in next meeting.
The following is one of clinical cases using MEBT/MEBO in treating pediatric severe burn wounds in Thailand with remarkable therapeutic efficacy.
Based on the current academic and medical situation in Thailand and combined the results from academic visits to the local hospitals, we conclude that academic promotion, medical marketing and seminars holding in Thailand are especially important in 2009, even in the future, which need our long-term hard work and persistence. In that way, the medical marketing and academic promotion of regenerative medicine in Thailand will be growing fast and stably to benefit more and more people!
