Leaders’ Speaks on the Opening Ceremony of 11th Chinese Congress of Burns, Wounds and Ulcers Regenerative Medicine

Sun Longchun, Former Minister of Chinese Ministry of Health:

It is very honorable for me to attend the 11th Chinese Congress of Burns, Wounds and Ulcers. I am not the expert of traditional medicine or western medicine, but I witnessed the invention and the development of Moist Exposed Burn Ointment (MEBO). I prefer to applying the traditional medicine to treat the burn patients, however, it also need some western medical techniques for the treatment. The integration of traditional and western medicine to treat the burns was realized under such situation and it is one medical method that can be applied to any illness and worthy of appreciation. Applying the integration of traditional and western medicine to treat the burns is the scientific achievement of our national traditional medicine and the modern western medicine. In the past many years, I have been concerned about the development of Moist Exposed Burn Ointment (MEBO) and I sincerely hope that all the doctors at home and abroad can get more achievement in treating burns after the academic exchanges and also I sincerely hope that the integration of traditional and western medicine can have a further development. Thank you.

Good Morning to the guest of honor, ladies and gentlemen. I would like to thank the organizing committee for inviting me to participate in this conference. And a special thank to Prof Chen YongChong who has been supporting and guiding the Malaysian doctors in commencing MEBT for the benefit of our patients, as well as in conducting clinical studies. My appreciation to the doctors and staff who shared their experience in the management of burn patients with MEBT during our hospital visit in Tai An the last two days. I am looking forward to sharing more experience and academic exchange with the experts during this conference. Thank you.

Good morning Ladies and gentlemen. It’s my great pleasure have some speak to this conference of Chinese Burn Association of the integration of traditional and western medicine today.In Thailand, MEBO/MEBT was well known about 20 years ago. In 1990, when the explosion of gas from the accident of turnover of gas containing car in Bangkok and gas was leaked all over the road and caused flamed burn. More than 100 people were injured. Most of them are treated with the support from the Chinese rescuing team, led by Prof.Xu (Zu). Prof.Zu went to Bangkok and used MEBO for treatment of Burn patients in that event. The result of treatment was very good and improved the survival rate of this burn patients.I work in Khon Kaen Hospital. It is one of the largest hospitals in the northeast part of Thailand with more than 880 beds and 4 beds for 1 burn unit. The number of burn patients in each year about 80-100. I have some experience in using MEBO in the treatment of second degree burn and the result is very good in both wound healing and scar formation. In 2009, Prof. Chen Yongchong visited our hospital and made some exchanges with more than 35 resident doctors and took care about the patients together. Before I came to this conference, I went to Guangzhou Hospital of the Traditional and Western Medicine and the People’s Hospital of Heyuan City with Prof. Wang Hongsen. The doctors demonstrated using MEBO/MEBT in the treatment of Burn Patients and chronic ulcers, especially diabetic ulcer foot (D M Foot) for our group of Thailand and Indonesia Doctors. I think it has made me more experienced about MEBO treatment of burn and chronic ulcer patients. It is very impressive for me. And we’d like to make further research and application on this technique and enhance the connection with Chinese doctors. Welcome you to visit Thailand and Thank you!

Respected Minister Sun, Respected Director Xiao, Respected Prof. Xu Rongxiang, experts, ladies and Gentleman: Good morning. The 11th Chinese Congress of Burns, Wounds and Ulcers is opening in Beijing today. Firstly, I on behalf of all the staff in the Chinese Association of the Integration of Traditional and Western Medicine would like to give a warm congratulation to the opening of the congress and welcome all the experts at home and abroad to attend the congress. Especially I would like to give my appreciation to Minister Sun and Director Xiao who have been devoting themselves in the development of the integration of traditional medicine and western medicine and the support on the burns treatment with the integration of traditional and western medicine.
The integration of traditional and western medicine in treating burn patients plays an important role in the work of Our association of the integration of traditional and western medicine. Since 1986, the Burn Regenerative Therapy has been considered as the achievement of the integration of traditional and western medicine and we have been sparing no effort in the popularization of this technique in china. In 1986, the Chinese Association of the Integrity of Traditional and Western Medicine considered MEBT as a kind of achievement of the combination of traditional and western medicine. And then on we began to engage in the promotion. So in 1986 we hosted the first national training seminar on burns moist therapy of the integrity of traditional and western medicine. At that time, there were many doctors from the hospital attending the training. And then we hosted 5 periods of training one after another and hundreds of professional medical care staff were trained to apply burns moist exposed therapy in clinic. Then in order to further promote this kind of achievement we set up the Chinese Burns Association of the Integrity of Traditional and Western Medicine (CBAIM) which was dedicated to the academic communication, further education, scientific popularization and the other relevant work, especially the efforts on the promotion and popularization of burns moist therapy. In that case, this therapy was listed as one of the promotion projects among the hundred scientific achievements by the National Ministry of Health. So as the professional institute we have already further identified this technology as an outstanding achievement and in that case we can walk tall and always go in for the promotion of the achievement. With more than 2 decades’ promotion and generalization, now we are happy to see that this technology has been effectively promoted and applied in China even in many foreign countries. At present, there are more than thousands of hospitals in China using this technology in treating over ten thousand of patients successfully. It can be said that this is a kind of effective and practical scientific achievement of western and traditional medicine integrity, beneficial to the people. At the soonest this kind of technology was called Moist Exposed Burn Therapy, which adopted the therapy combined with western and traditional Chinese medicine from the diagnosis to the treatment. At diagnosis, this technology not only used western medicine theory but also applied traditional medicine treatment determined with the basis on differentiation of symptoms and signs; at treatment, it was not only the application of moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO) alone but also the adoption of western effective therapy, which at the key page guaranteed the function of MEBO. So with the combination of western and traditional Chinese medicine, this technology played its full function with effective clinical results. Just because of the outstanding clinical application results, this technology has got generally promoted. So we can say that with more than 20 years’ practice and identification, this kind of achievement is a really a kind of outstanding achievement, beneficial to the people. This is the main point of my understanding and experience of MEBT/MEBO.

In order to cultivate more young talents on technology and to create the conditions for them to outshine others, the 3rd Burns and Ulcer Commission members of our Burns Committee has nominated and recommended the candidates. After consultation with the relevant provincial associations of the integrity of traditional and western medicine and the candidates’ affiliation, it is decided to set up the 3rd Youth Commission of Burns Association. The requirements for the youth commissioners are: less than 45 years old, title above associate professor, loving and engaging in the burns treatment of the integrity of western and traditional medicine, the experts and scholars achieving certain kinds of academic attainment and credentials already. After extensive recommendation and selection, now we have chosen out 14 experts candidates for our youth commission. I sincerely hope that these comrades will work together with other partners from our burns association to contribute to promote and accelerate the efforts of academic exchanges, further education, scientific popularization and academy development of the integrity of traditional and western medicine and burns prevention, thank you everybody!
