Guangming Daily: Can Life Sicence be Established？

I am a layman in the filed of life science but I am interested in studying some commonsense knowledge. I have paid close attention on life science for more than 20 years. Here I would like to review some of my related thoughts in this filed in recent years and propose my own plain view of life science in term of world view and methodology in order to ask for advice in this filed and others who are interested in it.

A. My interest originated from a master and a new friend

People always have many dreams and strange thoughts in childhood. I have a lot of interest in life science because of tow individuals.

One of them is the greatest and respected scientist QIAN Xue-sen. In his days, he paid close attention in the study of human life science. He clearly proposed an idea that “human body is an open and complicated system” and appeal repeatedly that human body life science should be taken as a subject or even an unknown science to be concerned and studied. One day in the 1980s, I met QIAN in a conference and expressed that I totally advocate his idea and appeal. Mr. QIAN said that: “the study of human body life science depends on the direction of Marxist Philosophy, depends on the focus and organization of the leaders, and depends on the co work of other related subjects. The development of the atomic bomb, hydrogen bomb and artificial satellite were also depending on this and thus it is a necessary for the study of human body life science.” I find that QIAN was also a person of foresight in the view of human body life science after year’s study and thinking.

Another is Mr. XU Rong-xiang, the founder of Moist Exposed Burn Ointment. I was acquainted with him in the 1980s. He shared his experience of studying human cell regeneration with me. He made some experiment on pumpkins in his spare time when he was a college boy. He scratched three pumpkins and the one smear with sesame oil grow new skin without any scar but the one without sesame oil have scar formation and the last one with tape was festered. He invented MEBO based on the experiment. In 1991, MEBT/MEBO was promoted and popularized as the “A Hundred Fruits in Ten Years” to the public by the Ministry of Health of PRC. After that, FDA also modified the rules of drug research which forbid any drug applies that can induce dry wound and slow wound healing. Afterwards, I applied his MEBO in my clinical work and it really can regenerate skin.

However, what impressed me most were not the invention itself but his understanding and application of philosophy during the process of invention. He once said: to some extend, the progress of the research lies on whether we have advanced idea of philosophy and the level of progress depends on how well you can use the idea of philosophy in to the research subject”. Even though my major is medicine, I love to study the questions of philosophy. I did not read much about philosophy especially western philosophy but I benefit a lot from the lecture of philosophy in the middle school and college. I have read Chairmen Mao’s On Practice, On Contradiction and where does People’s Correct Thought come from? For many times which help me further understand the fundamental of dialectical materialism. I totally believe this theory and understand the philosophy idea of “wholeness and individual “which means to master the whole rule of life as well as the rule of individual life body or single organ. The rule of the wholeness and the individual should consist with each other; hence it indicated that it is the objective rule of life body. My study on MEBT/MEBO was also based on the guidance of “wholeness and individual”. In the past, the principle of burn treatment was to maintain a dry wound. However, it has been indicated in the clinical practice that dry wound can not heal the wound.

Recently I read Professor XU’ book named the Study of Human Body Regenerative Restoration Science which further enhance my understanding of life science. In the past, people usually focusing on the study of human activity and nutritional substance from birth to death. But “Human Body Regenerative Restoration Science” centered on the study of regenerative potential after born and regenerative substance that induce the human regenerative potential. Is this a new way to explore the human life science?

Establishment of “life Science” is corresponding with Marxism.

Let us free ourselves from the restraint to boom and develop the natural science, social science and life science especially human body life science of human beings.
