Wenwei newspaper--Breakthrough achieved in bio-life science in China --- Tissue organ cloning have realized application in human clinic
Hongkong Wenwei newspaper reported on Aug.17, 2007, Great scientific achievement in bio-life science field emerged in China -- all human tissue organs cloning have been accomplished by Chinese scientists after 5 years research. Professor Rongxiang Xu, Chairman of Board Bureau and Director of Beijing Rongxiang Institute of Regenerative Medicine, renowned Chinese bio-life scientist announced to the public on Aug. 16, 2007 that he and his research team had completed the research on cloning more than 206 of tissue organs in experimental clinical practice so as to realize human organs regenerated in situ clinically. In a foreseeable near future, patients with renal failure won’t be necessarily anxious waiting for unexpected renal donation to them, diabetic patients won’t be suffering injection of insulin from time to time, their defected organs will be repaired and regenerated in situ.
Five years ago at the same day, Rongxiang Xu had made a commitment to the public that he and his team were going to complete the research on 206 of the tissue organ cloning and controlling and transforming the tumor cell line in a period of 5 years. The announcement, like a stone thrown into a calm water that caused a thousands scales of wave, had caused a great dispute, some positive, more negative. As a result, he was titled with the most disputed scientist. Rongxiang Xu said today's announcement, in one side, was to honor a commitment presented 5 years ago, in other side, was to make more people to understand the newest progresses in bio-life science.
In accordance with his presentation, the related techniques of tissue organ cloning have been granted 7 patents in USA, and 2 in Europe and Japan respectively. Now the patent application reviewing has been undertaking in China and other countries. In addition, more patents, including platform of organ cloning filed in 2001 and other more patents applications, have been being reviewed and are expected to obtain patent right in the future.
Professor Xu pointed out, it is widely known that stem cell have the capacity to proliferate and differentiate, however, the research team found out that tissue cell, the “mother” of stem cell, also have the regenerative capacity as stem cell, their potential proliferating capacity just stay at dormancy without stimulation. The regenerative capacity of tissue cell can be activated which is found during the treatment of burn wounds by using regenerative substances. By means of numerous experiments, it was approved that those been activated tissue cells are capable of forming tissue organs finally just as stem cell do. In 2002, the research team announced to public that this phenomenon not only exist in the mucosa of skin and gastrointestinal, the tissue organ cloning can also be realized in other organs such as cardiac muscle, glomerulus of kidney, renal tubule, pancreatic gland, thymus gland and intestine, etc.
In line with the same research train of thought, the research team led by Professor Xu has finally accomplished all human organs cloning over the past 5 years. Professor Xu indicated that after reassessment of scientific achievements in 2002, it is approved that human beings are able to use their own cells to cultivate fresh tissue organs to replace those serious defected organs such as cardiac, liver, spleen, lung and renal, etc. Furthermore, those tissue organs can be repaired directly in situ rather than be replaced.
Professor Xu had presented his bio-life science research plan, i.e. 1) By means of the matured techniques of tissue organ cloning in situ and the regenerative substances invented to realize organ recovered in situ of defected organ. To reach this goal, a number of hospitals, centering on Beijing, faced to whole world to engage in tissue organ cloning in situ in clinical practice will be established in whole China; 2) To establish a healthcare system based on regenerative recovery with regenerative nutrition to prevent human suffering from the diseases and aging. 3) Making every effort to conduct further more research on the technique of defected inner organ recovered in regeneration with the technique of tissue organ cloning in situ and regenerative substances so that more and more doctors may provide better service to their patients with regenerative medicine and therapy. 4) It is expected to conduct further research on synthesis of various regenerative substances so as to develop more and more food combination of full-scale nutrition with regenerative nutrition, which are more convenient and cost effectively.
